In the production of methyl methacrylate (MMA) cast sheet, the high-temperature polymerization reaction in the boiling kettle yields a process-ready prepolymer. However, prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause residual initiators to trigger further chain reactions. This may lead to uncontrolled viscosity increase, discoloration (yellowing), or even gelation and batch spoilage.
To solve this problem, we have developed the MMA Cooling Kettle. This key downstream unit, with a capacity matched to the boiling kettle (2–3 tons), is designed to rapidly cool the high-temperature MMA prepolymer to ambient temperature. Through efficient cooling and controlled agitation, it effectively "quenches" the polymerization reaction. This ensures the material remains chemically stable during subsequent storage, degassing, or casting processes.

Why Cool to Ambient Temperature?
MMA prepolymer retains significant polymerization activity above 50°C. Cooling to ≤35°C (room temperature) largely deactivates the initiator. This guarantees absolute stability during extended storage or before molding, preventing batch quality variations and the risk of total batch loss.
